Google Searching Tips

  • To get range of dates, use ...  Example:  fashion 1999..2015
  • To ensure a specific phrase is searched, use parentheses around the terms.  Example:  "Argentina fashion"
  • To search only within a specific site, use site:  Example: site:www.stanford .edu

Also, did you know that you can use Google to search government websites for your country?  This is helpful because governments often conduct research and gather data that can answer many of your research questions.  In order to perform the search, take a look at the example's instructions below and then apply them to your country:

  1. Go to http://www.google.com
  2. In the search box, enter site: go.ke
  3. Browse the search results and look for government organizations that apply to your research question (Ex: Ministry of Education)
